Kickstart My Heart by Mötley Crüe | rhythm
An electric guitar lesson on how to play “Kickstart My Heart” by Mötley Crüe from their 1989 album "Dr. Feelgood" produced by Bob Rock.
I was watching TV the other day and a bank commercial came on with this song as the sound track ! I had forgotten just what a killer track this is. It's a great guitar riff by Mick Mars and Tommy Lee's drumming is off the charts. At 180 beats per minute, this one is like a run away train. I wouldn't exactly put Vince Neil's lyrics along side of Dylan or Springsteen, but for straight ahead Rock and Roll, this tune is hard to beat! This from Wikipedia: "Bob Rock found the process of working with Mötley Crüe difficult, describing the band as "four L.A. bad asses who used to drink a bottle of wine and want to kill each other." In order to minimize conflict and allow production of the record to proceed smoothly, Rock had each member record their parts separately." In this lesson I'll go over the rhythm guitar parts. A lot of guitar players tend to focus on playing lead and solos, but playing rhythm is super important and learning a tune like this will really help your rhythm chops. It's a real challenge to play this one clean and maintain a steady meter, without slowing down or speeding up. I also talk about detuning the B string to get sweeter sounding thirds, a trick that Eddie Van Halen made popular especially on tunes like "Unchained" and "Runnin' With the Devil." I had a blast recording the demo for this one and making the lesson. I hope you enjoy playing this killer tune! Cheers Andy |
