It Came Upon A Midnight Clear | acoustic
This year's Christmas song is "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear." It was written way back in 1849 by Edmund Sears.
This is my own arrangement of this classic Christmas tune. It's in drop D. I tried to get as many open strings as possible ringing throughout this one as I really like that kind of sound. I also use a lot of "sixths" which are essentially dyads with the 3rd on the bottom most of the time. I'm huge fan of these, they sound great and you can use them in any style of music, as they always work. The bridge in this one is very classical sounding. The chords modulate to an F# major to a B minor to an A7 as you play the melody on top. It's the trickiest part of the tune but with a bit of practice shouldn't be too tough to get down. I always have a great time working out these Christmas songs and this year was no exception. I hope you like my arrangement and have fun playing this classic carol. Merry Christmas everyone!
