Hotel California by The Eagles | acoustic intro
An acoustic guitar lesson on how to play the intro to “Hotel California” by The Eagles, played by Don Felder, from the “Hotel California” album released in 1977.
(I tracked the main guitar part with a guitar in Nashville tuning to try to emulate the 12 string that it was originally played on.) This is another Eagles classic where you know the song after the first chord. There are a million versions floating around on youtube on how to play this, but many are geared towards beginners and are way over simplified. Even Don Felder plays it much more simply than he recorded it. The original version has a lot of intricate picking and will take even experienced players a while to get down. It’s based around a picking pattern, but that pattern has a few different variations. The great part is that once you learn the intro, you’ve pretty well got the whole song as the progression just repeats. IMHO, it’s worth the time to play it properly as it sounds so much better than the simplified version most guys play. I hope you enjoy the lesson and have fun playing this great tune. Cheers Andy |
