Highway Star by Deep Purple (Ritchie Blackmore) | solo
An electric guitar lesson on how to play the guitar solo from "Highway Star" by Deep Purple Richie Blackmore.
This is a real classic solo. I remember buying Machine Head way back in 1972 and I played it a lot! In my opinion it's the best record they made with Burn being a close second. Ritchie Blackmore's playing on this album is amazing. He was breaking new ground for rock guitarists everywhere with his classically influenced arpeggios and the harmony guitar leads, yet his bluesy playing on Lazy is still so good to this day! I've never heard anyone play that solo like he does! He was a huge influence on almost every hard rock metal player today including guys like Randy Rhoads and of course Yngwie Malmsteen. I consider him one of the most influential and groundbreaking guitarists in history. Learning this solo will be a real challenge for most players and most will think that the fast arpeggios at the end are the hardest part but for me even though it's pretty quick, it's still the easiest part of the solo. It's all those bends that are the tricky part hitting them flat or sharp is going to sink the solo REAL quick! I hope you enjoy the lesson and have fun learning the solo. Cheers Andy |
