Girl by The Beatles | acoustic
An acoustic guitar lesson on how to play “Girl" by The Beatles from the 1965 album Rubber Soul.
Here's the Beatles Bible link about the song. There's some interesting stuff in there that I never knew before. This is John's song. He had quite a few on this album and IMHO was at his best. Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man and In My Life were all his contributions to Rubber Soul. This album and Revolver have always been like the same record to me, just part one and part two with Rubber Soul released on Dec. 3rd, 1965 and Revolver on Aug.5, 1966. They were a big turning point for the Beatles. They were expanding and honing their songwriting both musically and lyrically. They were also listening to a lot of Dylan at the time and were heavily influenced by his style. This one is in the key of C minor with the capo way up on the eighth fret which makes it hard to get your fingers into those tight spaces! It's a relatively easy tune to get through although there are a couple if things that you can do to make it sound more authentic when you play it. I always really liked the way it broke into the Zorba the Greek thing at the end. That's one of the great things about the Beatles. They just did what they wanted and took a lot of chances musically. I had a good time working on this tune so I hope you enjoy the videos. Cheers Andy |
