Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile) by Santana | solo
Europa by Santana from the 1976 album "Amigos". It was written by Carlos and Tom Coster.
It's the song that inspired Joe Satriani's career and one of the greatest guitar instrumentals of all time. Europa is considered by many to be Santana's most beautiful instrumental song and is one of his most harmonically complex and sophisticated songs. Although "Samba Pa Ti" would have to mentioned in there as well in my opinion! Based in C minor, the progression is essentially a cycle of fifths and is really similar to Autumn Leaves and many others that follow that familiar progression. It's a good song for all levels. The first half can be played by beginner to intermediate players, and the second half by intermediate to advanced guys. This is a must learn for all rock/blues guitar players. I really enjoyed working on this tune. There are some killer licks in the second half of it. Carlos is known for his melody, but at times he can shred pretty good as well! I hope that these videos help you to learn to play this beautiful piece of music. Cheers Andy |
