Big Love by Lindsey Buckingham | acoustic "live version"
An acoustic guitar lesson on how to play the live version of "Big Love" by Lindsey Buckingham. The song was first released on the 1987 album "Tango In the Night".
This lesson is based on the live version. I used this version from the dance and this more recent version of him playing it on a Gibson Chet Atkins nylon string guitar when I was learning the tune. This is another interesting version that I used. It's from an interview show where he plays it on his Taylor. This is such a great song and really puts on display LB's talent not only as a writer and singer, but also as one of the best finger picking guitarists around. It always amazes me how guys can play such complex and demanding guitar parts and sing at the same time. He plays this anywhere from 139BPM on the Dance version down to around 133-136 on the more recent live versions. For my demo I played it at 136. That was really pushing it for me and I was barely holding it together at that speed! It's a very tough one to get through with many complex sections and will take a ton of practice for even experienced players to get down. The hardest part for me was that little break after the guitar solo. That's really tough. The next bit I also found difficult. Keeping the picking consistent and in time was a real challenge. I always enjoy the challenge of learning Lindsey's songs and every time I work on one, even though I know he's a great guitar player, I come away with renewed respect for his abilities. I hope that you are able to get something from this video and that it helps you to play this amazing song. Cheers Andy |
